ANIMUNDI
Enter your birth date and time to calculate the Four Pillars of Destiny — the ancient Chinese art of natal astrology.
Ba Zi turns your birth date and time into four pillars — one each for year, month, day and hour. Each pillar pairs one of the ten Heavenly Stems with one of the twelve Earthly Branches, yielding two Chinese characters. Eight characters in total: hence the name “Ba Zi”, literally “eight characters”. The day pillar identifies the Day Master, your central element, while the other pillars tell the story of family roots, growth phase and future projection. The ANIMUNDI algorithm uses the Chinese solar calendar with timezone and daylight-saving corrections, applies the Jia Zi table of 60 sexagenary binomials, and computes the balance of the five Wu Xing elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water) together with the Chinese zodiac animal for each pillar. The output is an energetic map showing where you have abundance, where you lack, and how to rebalance through colours, directions, activities and favourable time windows.
Ba Zi has roots in the Tang dynasty (618–907 CE) and was systematised during the Song period by Xu Ziping, from whom the system inherits its alternative name Ziping Ba Zi. For over a thousand years the Four Pillars of Destiny have been one of the main divinatory and decision-support arts at the Chinese imperial court, used to choose wedding dates, military strategies, business openings and political appointments. Ba Zi reached the West in the late 20th and early 21st century, first via the Chinese diaspora and then through contemporary manuals that integrated it into coaching and self-study. Today Ba Zi is used as a tool for self-knowledge, personal planning and reading life cycles, in dialogue with other subtle practices such as geomancy, numerology and Vedic astrology.
Ba Zi, literally “eight characters”, is the classical Chinese art of the Four Pillars of Destiny. From birth date and time you derive four pillars (year, month, day, hour) combining Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches, used to read temperament, talents and dominant elements.
Each pillar pairs one of the ten Heavenly Stems with one of the twelve Earthly Branches according to the Chinese solar calendar. The day pillar identifies the Day Master — the central element of your chart — around which the balance of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water is read.
The exact time enables the hour pillar, which relates to legacy, children and the final third of life. Without the time the reading still works on the other three pillars, but the chart is less precise. If you don’t know it, noon is an acceptable symbolic fallback.
